Academics

It is the purpose of Midwestern Christian Academy to provide our students with a quality Christian education that is based on Biblical principles that will lead them to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior; cause them to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord; and equip them to live and serve the Lord faithfully throughout their lives.

...MCA delivers an education that far exceeds the national average level of achievement.

To support this endeavor, our academic program is fully accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Through a balanced curriculum, detailed learning objectives, and a strong educational focus, MCA delivers an education that far exceeds the national average level of achievement.

Objectives

As Christian educators, it is important to structure our goals to reflect what we believe about God and His will for us today. Therefore, Midwestern Christian Academy supports the following objectives to guide our educational processes:

  • To provide opportunities for students to receive Christ as their personal Savior during times of daily Bible study, weekly Chapel services, and special emphasis meetings
  • To grow the spiritual life of students by helping them understand how to commit to God's will
  • To develop a Christian worldview and lifestyle by investigating all academic subjects through the truth found in God's Word
  • To enable effective communication in students through basic Language Arts skills and training in oral and written performance
  • To make students aware of their creative abilities and/or giftedness by demonstrating their skills within the framework of a positive self-concept
  • To develop the social awareness and compatibility in students by providing opportunities to participate in groups of various sizes
  • To help students appreciate their constitutional freedoms and demonstrate civic responsibility by studying our American heritage and democratic form of government
  • To reinforce the Biblical concept that the body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit" through emphasis on personal hygiene, physical coordination, and a wholesome respect for physical well-being.
  • To facilitate students' adoption of Christian and democratic values for their moral, social, and spiritual conduct as exemplified by the teacher's conduct.

Educational Focus

We believe that education is the process by which students learn to discover and apply truth. Midwestern Christian Academy's educational focus reflects that all truth is ultimately centered in God and may be known through natural and divine revelation. The work and will of God are revealed to us primarily in God's Word, the Bible; while other books and materials are utilized, the Bible is our fundamental source of authority. (Colossians 2:3, Psalm 19:1,7)

Our educational focus, therefore, includes the following convictions:

  • The major theme of the Scriptures is redemption through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 1:1-2)
  • Education should be geared to meet the needs of the total person - spiritual, physical, psychological, and social. (Luke 2:52).
  • Schools should work together with the home and the church in bringing up children in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4)
  • The individual is responsible for his attitudes and actions toward divinely-appointed authority - parental, governmental, educational, and others.
  • God creates each individual with unique characteristics and abilities, providing a specific design for each one. (Ephesians 2:10)
  • The educational program should be structured to provide opportunities for the practical application in daily life of classroom knowledge gained. (Proverbs 3:5-6; Deuteronomy 6:7-9)
  • The teacher plays a significant role in setting a proper example or model for students in moral, social, and spiritual conduct. (Philippians 3:17; 4:9)
  • Our body is meant to be the temple of the Holy Spirit and our responsibility is to develop a wholesome respect for our physical well being through personal hygiene, physical development, and avoidance of tobacco, alcohol, and addictive drugs. (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)
  • God created the earth for the benefit of mankind and that we are meant to be careful stewards of its resources. (Genesis 1:28; Psalm 24:1).
