ACADEMICS | CURRICULUM
The word curriculum is defined as "all the courses of study offered by an educational institution." You'll find that Midwestern Christian Academy provides an evenhanded Christian education for students from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. The school has full accreditation from the Illinois State Board of Education and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.

Our curriculum includes the following:

Biblical Focus
Serving as our foundation and guide in all subject areas, the Bible is our most important textbook. In addition, we utilize a wide range of instructional materials from both Christian and secular publishers that best suit the Christian focus of our educational program. Students have a daily Bible class and attend a weekly Chapel service.

Comprehensive Coverage of Subjects
A complete instructional program of subjects is taught at all levels, including basic school subjects such as Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Additional instruction in Bible, vocal and instrumental Music, Physical Education/Health, and Art is also provided.

Extensive Library/Media Center
Available to students at all levels, our Library/Media Center houses over 5,000 volumes of reference, non-fiction, and fiction books. Audio-visual equipment and materials are also available for use in the Library/Media Center or classrooms. Special help or tutoring is also provided as needed through this facility.

Extracurricular Activities
Students are encouraged to pursue individual interests in an extracurricular program, including sports, band, choir, Bible Quiz, Science Fair, Olympic Day, Arts and Craft Fair, Spelling Bee, and other special contests. Various Music/Drama programs are presented throughout the year for the families of students.

Standardized Testing
Conducted in all grades K-8, standardized achievement testing assesses student progress and needs. Students with special educational requirements are identified and referred to the public schools or private agencies for evaluation and remediation. Tutoring is available at MCA during and after school for those necessitating individual assistance.

Technology Education
Our extensive computer lab offers classes for those in grades 6-8, while other students have in-classroom access to software applications and tutorials.

Student Media
Encouraging the publication of literary works by students, our Student Star newspaper and Pathway yearbook teams offer numerous opportunities for those interested.

Phonics Emphasis
In the primary grades, much importance is placed on mastering phonetic and reading skills.

Mathematical Studies
Depending on grade level, our mathematics program covers basic skills up through the use of the metric system, calculators, Pre-Algebra, and Geometry.

Creation vs. Evolution
We believe and teach the creation approach in Science, however we also present the theory of evolution for examination and evaluation.
